Udiyanna Bandha

by Steven Sandberg-Lewis, ND, DHANP

Udiyanna Bandha is an exercise that massages all of the abdominal organs and can stimulate more complete bowel movements, improving the descent of stool into the lower rectum.

It is generally not recommended one do this exercise during pregnancy or menstruation, nor is it recommended for those with inflammatory bowel disease, peptic ulcers, diaphragmatic hernia, high blood pressure, heart disease, glaucoma and increased intracranial pressure.

In my experience, this exercise may be helpful for relieving hiatal hernia.
