FAQ: Appointment Types

IN-OFFICE VISITS

Using all the tools available to assess and treat the body, the providers at Hive Mind Medicine can determine the ideal course of action for diagnosis and treatment in alignment with educating the patient on the function of their body.

FOLLOW UPS

Optimal health is not achieved in one day. Continuing or modifying the treatment determined in office is an ongoing process that can occur in person or over the phone for up to one year after the in office visit.

Telehealth versus Telemedicine

Both Telemedicine and Telehealth appointments are conducted through Zoom. Zoom is integrated into our ChARM medical records system which is secure and compliant with state and federal privacy regulations.

There is a significant difference between these services. Please read more below.

Telemedicine

Dr. Sandberg-Lewis sees patients in-person and via telemedicine at Hive Mind Medicine in Portland, Oregon. Telemedicine is reserved for residents of Oregon or California where Dr. Sandberg-Lewis is a licensed practitioner. Telemedicine confers full patient status which allows us to order lab tests and imaging and broadens potential treatment options.

In addition, people who travel from anywhere outside Oregon or California to our Portland clinic to establish a doctor-patient relationship can also have follow-up appointments via telemedicine for up to one year following their in-person appointment.

It should be noted that Oregon and California have vastly different prescription rights for NDs. Dr. Sandberg-Lewis’s California license limits his ability to prescribe anything other than hormone prescriptions to California residents. While he can provide recommendations for what prescriptions to consider, any non-hormone prescriptions will have to be obtained through another provider.

With Telemedicine, we can provide patients with superbills to submit to their insurance companies to request reimbursement.

** Hive Mind Medicine does NOT bill insurance directly **

Telehealth

Dr. Sandberg-Lewis is available for telehealth for people outside of Oregon, and California and for people who live elsewhere but are not able to travel to our Portland clinic for an in-person visit.

During a Telehealth session, also called an educational consultation, Dr. Sandberg-Lewis is able to

  • Provide you and/or your treatment team with information about your diagnosis and analysis of recent workups

  • Educate you about other lab work and potential treatment approaches for your condition(s)

During this educational consult, Dr. Sandberg-Lewis CANNOT and will not act as your physician by

  • Ordering labs or imaging

  • Making an official ICD-10 diagnosis

  • Prescribing medications

Because Dr. Sandberg-Lewis is not the overseeing physician, any suggestion made during the Telehealth session must be reviewed by your attending physician(s) before implementation.

** No superbill is available for telehealth consultations **
